Repair of Stained Glass and new Protective Covering at Reedy Branch Free Will Baptist Church in Winterville, NC
In the winter of 2015, Michael Laws met with Reedy Branch Free Will Baptist Church in Winterville, NC. He examined the windows. The church has (19) opalescent glass windows and a hand-stained pictorial glass window in a light box behind the pulpit. The windows are relatively old (50+ years) and made by at least two different companies. The pictorial glass window of the "Good Shepherd" is in good shape. It was produced by High Point Art Glass, a company that is now out of business, but produced many beautiful and well-built stained glass windows throughout the Carolinas. A few of the opalescent glass windows were produced by High Point Art Glass as well, and they are in relative good shape. Most of the other opalescent glass windows were produced by another maybe older company, and they are not in as good as shape. They have bulges and new braces. Some of the sections have came apart. Putty is loose in places. Also, all of the windows have a thin 1/8" storm glass covering them.
In the fall of 2015, Laws Stained Glass Studios comes to the church to repair the windows and provide new protective covering. The scope of the work includes:
- Straighten bulges and add new brace bars where necessary.
- Clean the windows on the inside and the outside.
- Chip off loose putty, re-glaze, and paint the glazing.
- Push sections of leaded glass that have come apart back together and re-solder.
- Furnish and install new 1/4" Lucite acrylic as the protective covering using 1/2" x 1/2" white aluminum stops to hold it in place.
- 1" vent button placed in the Lucite protective covering to help prevent condensation.

Penny,
Please let everyone know that there have been many comments on how well the windows look. The look like new windows and I know they will be enjoyed for many more years to come. Greg and his crew were very professional and their workmanship was flawless. If anyone asks for references for work on stained glass windows I will be sure to let them know who to go to.
Thanks again for a job well done!
