Stained Glass Windows at Big Bethel Baptist Church in McKenney, VA

In 2002, Laws Stained Glass Studios installed (14) hand-stained glass windows at Big Bethel Baptist Church in McKenney, VA. The six main sanctuary windows (size 41" wide x 115" high ) contained a floating scene of the "Life of Christ" and a memorial plate. Two other windows (size 35" wide x 80" high ) and two (size 35" wide x 55" high) have a 12" round Biblical scene and memorial plate, and another two windows (size 24" wide x 78" high) have a 10" round Biblical scene and a memorial plate. Two small windows (size 32" wide x 38" high) do not have a Biblical scene, but do have memorial plates.

Laws Stained Glass Studios removed the existing wood sashes and installed the windows into the existing wood frame. On the interior, the hand-stained glass window was set and on the exterior 1/4" Lucite SAR (extra mar-resistant) acrylic was installed as the protective covering. The acrylic was held in place with (2) rows of 1/2" x 1/2" white aluminum stop.

In 2003, the church ordered two more windows (size 36" wide x 54" high). These windows contained a 12" round Biblical scene and a memorial plate. On the outside, 1/4" Lucite SAR acrylic was installed.

Close-up of the thick aluminum framing used as flashing. Note how smooth it is around the curved part at the top. Normal flashing material has to be notched or put up in sections that lap over one another.
