Stained Glass Windows by High Point Glass & Decorative Company

High Point Glass & Decorative Company was a large studio that produced stained glass windows for thousands of churches throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and beyond. The studio was founded in 1906 by A. W. Klemme.

In the late 1940s, C. A. "Jack" Laws went to visit Mr. Klemme as his studio in High Point. Jack always liked to tell the story of how Mr. Klemme "ran him out of his studio". Klemme didn't want his new competition "snooping around". Mr. Laws always referred to him as "Old Man Klemme." Mr. Klemme's son, A. W. Klemme, Jr., who was about Jack's age, eventually took over the studio and the relationship cooled. In the 1980s, Laws Stained Glass began to provide steel frames and ventilators for High Point Glass & Decorative Company.

A few years after 2000, the studio went out of business. But the Klemme's left a legacy of quality stained glass windows. "Old Man Klemme" made his windows a certain way - "the proper way." Many windows they produced from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s are still in good shape, and of course very beautiful. They produced all types of leaded windows including cathedral (imported & domestic glass) and hand-stained pictorial windows, but the vast majority of their work is opalescent glass windows.

We regularly run into their work. We repair broken pieces. We cover the windows with protective covering and do other restoration work with them.
